We are thrilled to welcome Jean Reidy, an award-winning children’s author, to our school! Jean Reidy is coming to us from Chicago, IL, and will present an assembly called “Serving Up Stories”. This is an incredible experience for our kids to have a real author present to them. The assembly is a “high-energy, interactive journey through the writing process of picture book creation.” She will coach the kids on how to dream up ideas and use techniques, like writing through “storytelling art”. We hope that this will help inspire all of our K-4 students! Families are invited to purchase Jean’s book(s) to be signed and delivered during her visit. All books will be hardback copies and should be ordered through Penguin Bookshop by Wednesday, April 3rd, 2024. The Abraham Lincoln PTO will be giving out two scholarship awards in the amount of $500.00 each for the first year of post high school education. If you know a current Bethel Park 2024 senior who attended Abraham Lincoln for a minimum of 2 years in elementary school please pass along this exciting scholarship opportunity. You will only need to complete a short application sheet, submit proof of college or higher education placement, and a short 300-500 word essay. All applications and necessary paperwork are due to the Highs School Guidance Office by April 8th 2024. Winners will be notified in May and must attend the Bethel Park High School Awards Program Scheduled for May 29th at 7:00 pm. Every Monday,beginning on 2/26/24 and running through 5/6/24 during morning announcements, Mr. Hays will read a Math problem specific to a grade level. 2. Students from that grade level have until the end of the day to submit their answer to the box outside of Mrs. DeGregorio ‘s room by 3:00. If their answer is correct, they will be entered into a chance to win a gift card to Target. 3. The question that was read on Monday will be posted outside Mrs. D’s room. Although participant registration is now closed, all are welcome to attend the show as members of the audience! There is no cost to attend. Please be reminded this is not a drop-off event and all children in the audience must be accompanied by an adult. Camp Invention A message from Camp Invention: Since we had to switch locations this year to Abraham Lincoln, our space is very limited. However, in order to accommodate our past numbers, we will be running 2 separate weeks of camp. There seems to be equal interest in both weeks. We are currently at 65% capacity for each week. I want to get the word out for interested families to register before we fill up and for them to use the $25 discount before it expires on 3/27/24. This is a nationwide camp, so families from other districts/communities are also welcome to attend. Please see the attached flyer for more details. The PROMO CODE is FUN25 Music News Mr. Booz hopes that many will join for the Lincoln Family Folk Dance Evening on Monday, March 18 at 6:30-7:30 pm in the Lincoln Multi-Purpose Room. We will move our way through some of the students’ favorite dances and games from Music Classes. Please mark your calendar, and come join in the fun! Other information about the Family Folk Dance: *The whole family is welcome! *No skill or knowledge is needed; we'll teach everything that evening. *Please silence phones. *Join us when you can, and leave when you need to. Down Syndrome Awareness Day Thursday, March 21 is World Down Syndrome Day. Wear your crazy or mismatched socks to school to spread awareness of what Down syndrome is, what it means to have Down syndrome, and how people with Down syndrome play a vital role in our lives and communities. PTO Board Positions Open Would you like to get more involved with your child’s school? Here’s your chance! The PTO is seeking dedicated PTO members to fill the following open positions on the 2024- 2026 Executive Boards (likely Lincoln's last years ). Co-President (Two-year term) Secretary (Two-year term) The PTO plans events that enrich your student(s) school experience. Research shows parent/guardian participation and engagement helps them perform better academically! PTO connects you with others who have similar goals to benefit our school. Stay connected with what’s happening and create relationships with teachers and staff. Volunteering is rewarding! Big or small, your time matters. Eligibility: 1. Each nominee must be a paid member of the PTO with up to date clearances and badge. 2. Each nominee will serve no more than two consecutive terms in the same office. 3. The office of President and Vice-President shall be held by anyone who has served as the committee chairperson of a standing or special committee or as an officer for at least two (2) years. 4. Duties begin following the last day of school, June 4th. Positions: Co-President: The Co-President shall shadow current president in all duties with the expectation of assuming full presidential duties the following year. Duties include: presiding at all meetings, preparing agenda for meetings, perform other duties as described in the by- laws or by organization, coordinate the work of the officers and committees, attend special council meetings and oversee budget preparations. Miscellaneous duties include marquis updates, communication with teachers, principal and school secretary, as well as social media updates. Secretary: The secretary needs to be very organized and on top of all school events to create and send out weekly blasts on Fridays. Duties also include monitoring BPSD social media pages and sharing pertinent information on our social media page, updating our website homepage with dates and agendas, take minutes at meetings, and reach out to committee heads for updates if they won’t be at the meeting.
